![]() So yeah, waterflow management, item destruction, bin sorting, fortress cleanup, livestock limitations. plus full catacombs so I've got the tomb spawn going. I've got Eggs, dogs, cats and water buffalo plus whatever assorted pets. The combinations of Cave spider silk/decades of death that happens in the caverns before you start cleaning it up and collecting the silk and corpses is MURDER on the fps. ![]() ![]() My fps tanked for quite a while before I finally broke into the 3rd layer cavern but once they started pulling everything out and into the crematorium everything improved. I have 9 windmills hanging 130 axles with nothing because I'm too lazy to hook anything up. So all told about just under 400 blocks constantly dragging stuff into to destroy. Well it's got some odd angles in it but it says it's 345 blocks, plus the cage/iron/steel loot alcove is about a 6x8. ![]() My favorite quantums are catapult quantums so I have a bunch of those. I am constantly pulling everything lying around and putting into quantums of some form or another. I'm working on pouring magma on the second/third layer of cavern lakes but they are both at 7/7. I drained the first layer of caverns so the map edge is floodgated/walled up, sitting at 7/7. I have a lava lake that's about 30x40 sitting at 2-3/7 because I haven't pulled it all out yet. But, my only water flow on the map currently is a 1x14 block water outflow to the edge of the map from the waterfall/well sump and a 1x4 block water in flow from the river. I'm running 80 FPS Edit: (This is a LIE, sure, I run 80 FPS with the game PAUSED evidently) with 600 dorfs, and about 300 livestock. I had to scum my saves to recover from the situation in the OG post. I've had a couple of crashes today as well when sending out my military. Both of which I'd done many times already while the magma was already long flowing. The problem happened suddenly, the only thing I done was give a live stock cull command and send out my military to raze a goblin hold. I've had the moat filling the last couple of shifts and it was running fine around 15fps. I still haven't dared send my military out. If you want to fill multiple Zed levels add a 3rd number, although I can never remember if it fills up or down from your curser.Īnd thank you for pushing me to use this tool. This will se tthe range and fill all squares to the right and down, to the numbers you typed. If you want to fill more than one square type "r (number) (number)". Then move the DF curser to wherever you want 7/7 magma and hit "enter". Type "7" to set what level you want the square filled to. Make sure it's set to magma by typing "m". Originally posted by DoubleG:in the DFHack window, type "liquids" One of the reasons you wanted to stay away from atom smashers and keep as much loot around as possible, Iron/steel is very finite. So your only source of iron after a while became the sieges/cavern dweller waves. OG DF your economic stone/coke/ores/gems were a much smaller finite resource. The current version of this game, the steam version, it's REALLY new player friendly. If you have lots of individual items all over the place like rocks each one is a tracked entity. You want as much stuff in stockpiles as possible, the Stockpile inventory is a single entity tracking mechanism. They make the food faster, you have more pots and barrels hanging around, etc. It takes a bit because the caverns FILL with stuff long before you ever get to a level of security/military capable of keeping haulers safe grabbing all the loots.Īlso, once you get to the point where you are making Masterpiece Lavish Meals your actual food needs decrease as well. Once you develop a heavy consistent item destruction methodology that works for large amounts of items you will break through the low FPS from having too much stuff lying around over the years. Unless you drain that lake down to 0/7 on that layer and leave the 7/7 underneath. Only pull magma from Magma lakes coming in from the map edge so it fills back up again to 7/7. Before each dorf can move a square, 1000 water flow blocks have to be calculated by the game.ħ/7 pressure is fine, it will run watermills, but the 5/7, 6/7 blocks will tear your FPS down to nothing. that means if you have 1000 water flow blocks and 500 dorfs. Each square with waterflow has to be calculated on each tick. But if you want to maximize FPS, minimize all water/magma flow. yeah sure there's lots of items to track, plants growing, rain, Dorfs, pets and livestock. The highest single FPS drain in the game is water calculations.
